
Pune: The "Indrayani River Cyclothon-2025," aimed at promoting awareness about Indrayani River conservation and environmental sustainability, saw an overwhelming response with 35,000 participants gathering at Gavjatra Ground in Bhosari on Sunday (January 19).
The event featured cycling, cultural activities, and a ceremonial "Ganga Aarti" to express gratitude towards the river, making the ninth edition of the Cyclothon a significant success.
The Cyclothon, organized under the guidance of MLA Mahesh Landge, was a joint initiative by Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, Avirat Shramdaan, Cycle Mitra Pune, Maheshdada Sports Foundation, Shivanjali Sakhi Manch, Sarathi Helpline, and various voluntary organizations.
Prominent dignitaries at the event included Swami Govinddev Giri Maharaj, Treasurer of Shri Ram Mandir Trust, Ayodhya; Sangram Maharaj Pathare; MP Shrirang Barne; PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh; Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale-Patil; and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Bapu Bangar.
Cyclothon Details and Objectives
The Cyclothon commenced with a ceremonial flag-off by the chief guests. Cyclists covered distances of 5 km, 15 km, and 25 km across the city, spreading awareness about environmental conservation and road safety. This year’s theme focused on traffic regulations and road safety, adding a practical dimension to the environmental cause.
PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh remarked, “River conservation is fundamental to ensuring a healthier future. Through the Cyclothon, we aim to instill this message in every participant, particularly the youth, who can drive impactful change towards a cleaner and greener city.”
Inspiring Participation from Differently-Abled Individuals
A highlight of this year’s Cyclothon was the active participation of differently-abled individuals, who became a source of inspiration for many. Their involvement reflected the inclusive spirit of the event and resonated with the "Purple Jallosh" initiative organized by PCMC.
MLA Mahesh Landge emphasized, “Protecting rivers is at the core of a city’s health. When citizens, social organizations, and representatives unite for river conservation, the city benefits immensely. Initiatives like the Indrayani River Cyclothon play a key role in fostering environmental awareness.”

The Cyclothon also featured cultural programs, emphasizing environmental preservation. Citizens lauded the effort, stating it encouraged them to adopt sustainable practices. Many youth pledged to actively participate in initiatives that promote cleanliness and environmental conservation.
