Pune: Kalyani Powertrain, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bharat Forge, has partnered with Taiwan’s Compal Electronics to produce X86 platform servers in India. The companies have signed a Technology Licensing Agreement, further solidified by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), to advance India’s local server manufacturing capabilities.
The collaboration aligns with the Indian government’s "Make in India" initiative, aiming to establish a robust domestic ecosystem for server production. Compal Electronics will extend technological expertise to Kalyani Powertrain, guiding operations related to production, assembly, testing, and final sales.
Strengthening India’s Position in Server Manufacturing
Amit Kalyani, Vice Chairman & Joint Managing Director of Bharat Forge, said: "We are delighted to collaborate with Compal, a global leader in technological products, for server manufacturing in India. This partnership will significantly enhance India’s manufacturing competitiveness. We deeply appreciate the trust Compal has placed in the Kalyani Group for this venture."
Echoing similar sentiments, Compal Electronics CEO Tony Bonadero remarked: "We are pleased to join forces with Kalyani Powertrain as we expand our server business through strategic partnerships. Kalyani Powertrain’s deep expertise in the Indian market will create a strong foundation for growth. We see this as the beginning of a broader collaboration in ICT solutions, generating greater value for both companies."
"Made in India" Servers Launched from Pune Facility
As part of its strategic push in electronics manufacturing, Kalyani Powertrain recently launched its first batch of "Made in India" servers from its state-of-the-art facility in Pune, Maharashtra, in February 2025. The company emphasized that the facility is poised to strengthen local supply chains, attract investments, and significantly contribute to the region’s industrial potential.
Driving India’s AI, Cloud, and Data Center Growth
This partnership is expected to play a pivotal role in India’s AI, cloud computing, and data center ecosystem by delivering high-performance, cost-effective server solutions. Enterprises, cloud providers, hyperscalers, and government organizations will benefit from locally manufactured, advanced computing infrastructure tailored to AI workloads and large-scale data processing.
