Pune: In a concerning cybercrime incident, a senior citizen from Guruganesh Nagar, Kothrud, was defrauded of ₹5.35 lakh by a cybercriminal pretending to be an army officer. The Kothrud Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
As per the complaint lodged by the victim, the fraudster contacted them in December, claiming to be an army officer searching for a rental property in Kothrud.
The accused promised to send an advance payment and obtained the victim's bank account details. Shortly after, the fraudster misused the information to withdraw ₹5,35,200 from the victim’s account. Senior Police Inspector Sandeep Deshmane has assured that the matter is under thorough investigation.
Kothrud Resident Scammed of ₹29.4 Lakh in Fake Investment Scheme
Pune: In another instance of cyber fraud in Kothrud, a resident was cheated of ₹29.4 lakh by scammers promising high returns on stock market investments.
The fraudster initially approached the victim through a mobile message, luring them with the prospect of significant gains in the stock market. The victim was added to a social media group where similar claims were made, creating a false sense of legitimacy.
Over time, the victim was convinced to transfer ₹29.4 lakh into the fraudster’s bank account. Once the money was received, the fraudster cut off all communication by deactivating their mobile number.
The victim lodged a complaint with the Kothrud Police. Crime Branch Inspector Vikramsingh Kadam is spearheading the investigation to identify and apprehend the culprits.
