Pune: A minor altercation turned violent in the early hours of Friday (December 6) when three individuals attacked a young man with punches, kicks, and a cement brick, leaving him unconscious.
The incident occurred between Chandni Bar in Karvenagar and Kokan Express in Kothrud. Warje Police have arrested the three accused.
The victim, Omkar Vijay Swami (27), a resident of Gagangiri Colony, Kothrud, sustained serious injuries during the assault. Following medical intervention, his condition has now stabilized.
The incident began around 1:00 AM when the accused—identified as Hemant alias Lokesh Suresh Mathawad (29), Shubham Rambhau Mokate (29), and Nachiket alias Ajinkya Gangadhar Ovhal (26), all residents of Kothrud—consumed alcohol at Chandni Bar. After leaving the bar, a verbal dispute erupted between them and Swami.
During the argument, Shubham hit Swami on the back with a floor tile, and Hemant threw a plant pot at him. Swami attempted to escape but was chased down by the trio and caught near Kokan Express Chowk.
Shubham continued the assault with punches and kicks, while Nachiket struck Swami on the head with a cement brick.
As the assault unfolded, bystanders gathered on the opposite side of the road. In an attempt to intimidate them, Shubham climbed onto the road divider and gestured for them to disperse. The attack left Swami unconscious on the ground.
Warje Police, upon receiving information, arrived at the scene and rushed Swami to the hospital. Since the victim was unconscious, police constable Prakash Chavan filed the complaint.
The accused were later arrested, and a case has been registered. Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Patil is leading the investigation.
