Pune: Maharashtra government has started a verification drive for beneficiaries of the ‘Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin’ scheme who own four-wheelers.
The Zilla Parishad's Women and Child Welfare Department has received a list of 75,100 beneficiaries in Pune district who have a four-wheeler registered in their or their family’s name. Anganwadi workers have been assigned to conduct door-to-door verification to ensure eligibility under the scheme.
The government collected data from the transport department and forwarded it to the district collectors for verification. Each district’s Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs), supervisors, and Anganwadi workers will conduct the inspections.
For Pune district, the Zilla Parishad has received two lists—one containing 58,350 names and another with 16,750 names, making a total of 75,100 beneficiaries. The administration has allocated these names to the respective taluka-level officials, and the verification process is set to begin immediately.
Dr. Anup Kumar Yadav, Secretary of the Women and Child Welfare Department, conducted a statewide video conference on February 3, instructing officials to verify whether the beneficiaries own four-wheelers.
Earlier, the government had appealed to ineligible women to voluntarily withdraw from the scheme. However, due to a low response rate, the government decided to enforce stricter verification measures.
The administration had anticipated the need for verification and had made preparations in advance. Since many Anganwadi workers assisted in submitting online applications, they are already familiar with the women in their local areas. This will help streamline the verification process, and once completed, the administration will submit a final list of ineligible beneficiaries to the government.
List Includes Only Four-Wheeler Owners Among Beneficiaries
The list compiled by the government exclusively includes beneficiaries of the scheme who own a four-wheeler or have one registered in their family’s name. Other vehicle owners are not part of this verification.
