Pune: A gangster was arrested by the Vimantal Police for threatening a paan shop owner with death and vandalizing property after being denied tea on credit. The incident occurred on December 12 at 10:15 p.m. at Karan Paan Shop on Porwal Road in Lohegaon.
The accused, Akshay Sanjay Sagalgile (20), a resident of Santnagar, Lohegaon, was previously booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) for his involvement in gang-related crimes. He was part of a group that had earlier looted businesses in Budhwar Peth at knifepoint.
According to the police, Akshay arrived at the paan shop and demanded tea on credit. When the shop owner, Vishal Kailas Palkhe (22), refused, Akshay threatened him with death while waving an iron machete. He shouted that he feared no one and would attack anyone who opposed him.
The rampage continued as Akshay damaged the shop’s counter, destroyed items inside the shop, and vandalized an adjacent egg bhurji cart owned by Sudhakar Mhaske. He smashed egg trays, threw rice, broke light bulbs, and damaged a refrigerator, creating an atmosphere of terror in the area.
The Vimantal Police swiftly intervened and arrested the accused. Assistant Police Inspector Chandan is leading the investigation.
