Pune: A metro line from Shivajinagar District Court to Yewalewadi via Kondhwa has been proposed under the MahaMetro initiative, aiming to ease traffic congestion and enhance urban connectivity. A meeting regarding the proposed project was recently held at Vidhan Bhavan, Pune, where key stakeholders discussed its potential benefits and implementation strategy.
The proposed Yewalewadi metro route will connect District Court, Kondhwa Budruk, Kondhwa Khurd, and Yewalewadi. Additionally, the project includes the approval of metro routes along Hadapsar-Saswad Road and Hadapsar-Loni Kalbhor Road.
The Yewalewadi Metro Project is expected to be completed by 2034, addressing the increasing traffic demands in Pune’s southern regions. Upon completion, the project is set to improve public transportation, reduce traffic congestion, and boost infrastructure development.
MLA Chetan Tupe Patil emphasized that Pune’s transportation infrastructure is in its final development phase, and new metro routes are essential to accommodate growing commuter needs. Former corporator Nanda Lonkar welcomed the proposal, calling it a crucial step for urban expansion and infrastructure development.
Atul Gadgil, Director of MahaMetro, stated that the Yevalewadi Metro Project will play a vital role in resolving traffic issues in the Kondhwa area and facilitating urban progress. As of now, the project remains in the proposal stage. MahaMetro officials have confirmed that a detailed project report (DPR) is being prepared and will be finalized before moving into the implementation phase.
