Pune, 15th July 2026: Maharashtra is likely to witness only isolated light to moderate rainfall over the next four to five days, while the possibility of widespread heavy rain remains low, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Large parts of the state are still awaiting substantial monsoon showers.
IMD scientist S.D. Sanap said rainfall activity has weakened due to the formation of a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, reducing the chances of widespread rain across Maharashtra. As a result, only isolated areas are expected to receive light to moderate showers during the coming days.
The break in rainfall has also led to clear skies in many regions, causing daytime temperatures to rise and making weather conditions feel hotter than usual.
The rainfall deficit remains a concern in many parts of the state. Most districts in Marathwada have recorded more than a 30 per cent shortfall in rainfall so far this season. Similar conditions are being observed in parts of West Vidarbha, Solapur and a few districts of North Maharashtra.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for isolated thunderstorms and moderate rainfall in the ghat regions of Pune and districts including Raigad, Thane, Nashik, Ahilyanagar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Jalna. Satara, Solapur and Dharashiv are also under a yellow alert.
However, the department clarified that rainfall will remain localised and is not expected to be widespread.
According to the IMD, monsoon activity is expected to strengthen after July 21–22. While rainfall intensity may increase in parts of Maharashtra, there is currently no indication of heavy or very heavy rainfall during that period. The department will continue to monitor the evolving weather systems and issue updated forecasts accordingly.
