Mumbai/Pune, 14 March 2026: The Maharashtra government is planning to develop a new IT park in Purandar taluka to address traffic congestion and infrastructure issues in the Hinjawadi IT hub and prevent companies from relocating.
Industries Minister Dr Uday Samant informed the Legislative Assembly that the government is positive about the proposal.
The issue was raised by MLA Vijay Shivtare, who pointed out that several IT companies are considering shifting out of Hinjawadi due to persistent traffic congestion and inadequate infrastructure. He asked the government about its stand on transferring grazing land in Dive, Kodit and Chambli villages of Purandar taluka for developing an IT park.
Responding to the discussion, Minister Samant said the state government is willing to move ahead with the project once the land transfer process handled by the revenue department is completed. After that, the land will be handed over to the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) so that work on the project can begin.
Minister of State Indranil Naik said Purandar is being considered a suitable location for an IT park. A preliminary decision in this regard was taken during a meeting of the industries department in 2025.
According to the proposal received on October 15, 2025, the industries department and MIDC requested the revenue department on February 27, 2026 to transfer around 572 hectares of land for the project.
Naik said the land belongs to the government, which will help keep project costs lower. He added that the revenue department will have to place the proposal before the state cabinet, and once the cabinet approves it, the process will be completed quickly.
“The government is positive about developing an IT park in Purandar. Once the revenue department completes the land transfer and cabinet approval is obtained, the land will be handed over to MIDC and the project will be taken forward,” said Industries Minister Dr Uday Samant.
