Pune: A 44-year-old man suffering from diabetes-related complications was allegedly forced to take discharge from Aundh District Hospital, despite his deteriorating condition. The patient, Girish More, a resident of Yerawada, was found dead at home just three days later on January 12.

More was admitted to Aundh District Hospital’s male medicine ward on January 3 after his blood sugar levels became unstable. He was treated by Dr. Amol Bondre, who diagnosed him with chronic alcoholism and Type-2 diabetes.

On January 10, More’s blood sugar dropped critically to 31, and he developed swelling in his legs, making it difficult for him to walk. Despite his condition, Dr. Bondre allegedly dismissed his concerns, insisting he was fit for discharge.

A video recorded by More’s relatives captures them pleading with the doctor, saying:

  • “His blood sugar is dangerously low, and he can’t walk. Please allow him to stay for a few more days.”

  • However, the doctor allegedly responded, "Is this an ashram?" and proceeded with the forced discharge.

Tragic Death After Hospital Discharge

More lived alone, as his wife and children did not stay with him. On January 10, he was sent home, even though his health was unstable and the hospital had sufficient capacity to accommodate him. Just two days later, on the morning of January 12, he was found dead at home.

Family Raises Questions on Hospital’s Negligence

More’s relatives hold the hospital accountable, stating that his death could have been prevented had he received continued medical care.

“If the hospital had kept him under observation for just a few more days, he would have survived.”

Hospital Authorities Defend the Decision

Dr. Nagnath Yampalle, District Surgeon of Aundh Hospital, responded to the allegations, stating: “The patient was a chronic alcoholic. Since his blood sugar was stabilized after treatment, doctors decided to discharge him. However, we will conduct further investigations into this matter.”
