Pune: A comprehensive policy will be developed to address challenges related to biodiversity parks (BDP), hill slopes, and hilltop constructions in Pune city, Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal announced. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has instructed the Urban Development Department to draft a detailed plan to resolve these issues systematically.
Meetings to Address Pune’s Development Projects
Last week, Union Minister of State for Cooperation and Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, conducted a meeting to discuss pressing issues and pending projects related to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Following this, Minister Madhuri Misal held a separate review meeting to discuss the progress and challenges of the city’s development projects.
During the meeting, key issues such as equitable water distribution, encroachments, residential property taxes, the JICA water project, solid waste management, water allocation, and the inclusion of cantonment areas into PMC limits were discussed. Misal stated, "The Chief Minister’s 100-day action plan includes several initiatives for Pune, and officials provided updates on its progress."
Focus on Biodiversity Parks and Hilltop Constructions
Chief Minister Fadnavis has emphasized the need to address construction activities and ecological concerns in BDP areas, hill slopes, and hilltops in Pune. The Urban Development Department has been tasked with drafting a detailed proposal to create a structured policy to tackle these challenges, Misal added.
Revenue and Planning in Newly Added Villages
Misal also highlighted the issue of revenue collection and planning in villages recently included within PMC limits. Currently, the responsibility for planning in these areas rests with the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), which collects revenue from these villages. However, providing basic infrastructure has been assigned to PMC.
“To resolve pending issues in these areas, discussions are underway to transfer the revenue collected by PMRDA to PMC. If implemented, this decision will significantly improve the infrastructure in these villages,” Misal explained.
