Pune, 20th August 2026: The Centre has directed all sugar mills in the country to submit transaction-wise details of sugar sold over three days, from August 17 to 19, 2024. The mills have been asked to provide details of the quantity sold, price at which it was sold and the identity of each buyer.
The direction was issued by the Sugar and Vegetable Oils Directorate under the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.
The sales for August 17, 18 and 19, 2026 must be reported separately. If a mill sold sugar to different buyers or at different prices on the same day, each transaction must be listed separately.
The mills have been asked to report the quantity in quintals and the sale price in rupees per quintal. For every transaction, they must also provide the buyer's name, full address, telephone or mobile number and GST number.
The information submitted by each mill must be complete, accurate and verified by the concerned factory.
The Centre has set 12 noon on August 20 as the deadline for submitting the information through the designated official email. The department has warned that delays or failure to provide the information within the prescribed time will be viewed seriously.
The government has not stated why it has sought the information at such short notice. Representatives of sugar industry organisations said they were waiting for further instructions from the Centre and declined to comment on the reason behind the urgent data collection.
