Pune: Harishchandra Rambhau Thorat, a 71-year-old veteran athlete from Khadkiphata (Ambegaon Taluka), showcased exceptional talent at the National Masters Games held in Odisha, winning three gold medals and one silver in various track and field events.

Thorat dominated the 5 km run, 1500 meters run, and 5 km walk, securing gold medals in all three events. Additionally, he clinched a silver medal in the 4x100 meter relay. His remarkable performance has now earned him a place in the Indian team for the upcoming international competition.

The National Masters Games took place in Odisha from March 6 to 8, attracting senior athletes from across the country. Competing in multiple events, Thorat secured:

  • Gold in the 5 km run

  • Gold in the 1500 meters run

  • Gold in the 5 km walk

  • Silver in the 4x100 meter relay
