Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) initiated its "Comprehensive Cleanliness" campaign, removing 24 tons of waste and 16 tons of debris from Wards 20 and 21.
The large-scale cleanliness drive also tackled unauthorized advertising hoardings, banners, and road obstructions, marking a strong start to the week-long campaign.
The initiative, led by PMC’s Solid Waste Management, Electrical, Roads, Hoardings, Encroachments, and Parks Departments, mobilized 764 personnel who worked in unison to clear prominent areas such as the Pune Station area, Tadiwala Road, and Bund Garden.
The first phase covered roads from Alankar Chowk to Police Commissioner’s Office Chowk, Bund Garden Water Supply Chowk to Jahangir Chowk, and Ruby Hall Hospital to City Point Chowk.
Key Highlights of Day One:
Waste Removal: 24 tons of wet, dry, and garden waste, and 16 tons of construction debris, were cleared.
Hoarding Cleanup: 35 unauthorized advertising hoardings and 123 banners were dismantled.
Obstruction Removal: Abandoned vehicles, handcarts, and iron stalls causing road congestion were removed.
Tree Maintenance: Dangerous branches from 42 trees were trimmed along key roads.
Infrastructure Repairs: 130 square meters of roads and 25 square meters of footpaths were repaired.
PMC Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts by various departments, stating, “The collective participation of PMC staff from multiple divisions has proven effective in improving city cleanliness.”
The Zone 1 campaign will continue until December 14, with similar drives planned for other zones.
Deputy Commissioner of the Solid Waste Management Department, Sandeep Kadam, affirmed that the unified efforts of PMC personnel will significantly enhance public hygiene across Pune.
