Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a campaign to address complaints regarding potholes and uneven chamber covers on city roads, which have been causing back pain and spinal issues for motorists.

The initiative, led by the PMC's Road Department, aims to level chamber covers with road surfaces by January 15, 2024.

Common Issue Across Roads

Many roads in Pune’s central and suburban areas are dotted with sewer pipeline, cable, and stormwater drain chambers, which are often left unrepaired after construction work.

These chambers result in uneven surfaces and potholes, posing risks to vehicles and discomfort to drivers. The raised sections around these chambers have also been linked to accidents.

Action Plan

The PMC has undertaken a detailed survey, with a consultant identifying over 1,500 such chambers across the city and newly included villages.

Repairs are now underway to align these chamber covers with the road surface. This move is expected to alleviate driver discomfort and reduce accident risks.

Aniruddha Pawaskar, head of the PMC Road Department, stated, “We have started work to level chamber covers and fill surrounding potholes. This campaign is expected to be completed by January 15, improving road safety and reducing inconvenience for motorists.”
