Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has taken a major step towards reducing traffic congestion by planning 10 'Missing Link' roads across key industrial and urban zones in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and IT corridors. The project has been allocated a budget of ₹857 crore, and land acquisition proposals have been submitted to the Pune District Collector for approval.
PMRDA had initially proposed 11 missing links, but the Kanhe Railway Station road was removed due to technical and local objections. The remaining 10 roads will improve connectivity across Khed, Shirur, Maval, and Mulshi talukas. These roads will help divert industrial and commuter traffic to ease congestion in major business hubs like Hinjewadi, Chakan, and Talegaon. Once approved by the District Collector, the land acquisition process will begin, accelerating the project's execution.

How These Missing Links Will Reduce Traffic Congestion
Balewadi-Mahalunge Link – Will divert traffic from Chandni Chowk and Sus-Baner Road to Hinjewadi IT Park (Phases 1, 2, and 3), reducing congestion at Wakad-Chhatrapati Chowk.
Dehu-Yelwadi Link – Will connect Chakan-Shikrapur Road directly to Pimpri-Chinchwad, providing an alternative to old Pune-Mumbai Road, easing traffic in industrial areas.
Skywalk Project Road in Lonavala – Will help decongest city traffic in Lonavala by providing an alternative access route.
PMRDA aims to divert major traffic flows away from city roads by creating alternative routes for industrial hubs and urban areas. These missing links are expected to ease congestion in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Hinjewadi, and Talegaon, benefiting both daily commuters and businesses.
"The missing link roads will provide crucial connectivity to industrial zones, IT hubs, and highways. Land acquisition proposals have been submitted to the District Collector, and the work will begin soon."
