Pune: In a significant technological upgrade, Pune Airport has introduced the Smart Visual Docking Guidance System (SVDGS), making it the first time this system has been deployed at the airport. This automated docking system ensures that pilots receive precise instructions for aircraft parking, thereby eliminating the need for traditional marshalling.
The new docking system will enable pilots to determine exactly where to stop for aerobridge alignment, streamlining aircraft parking operations and enhancing the overall efficiency of Pune Airport.
How the Smart Docking System Works
Pune Airport, which has 10 parking bays and 10 aerobridges, is now equipped with automated guidance technology that connects aircraft to the airport's central operations control center. Through sensors, cameras, and AI-driven technology, pilots will receive real-time instructions directly in the cockpit.
Previously, ground staff were required to guide aircraft manually (marshalling), but with this state-of-the-art digital system, docking will now be safer, faster, and more efficient.
Safer and More Efficient Than Traditional Docking
According to Pune Airport Director Santosh Dhoke, this new system is significantly safer and more efficient than conventional methods. "Compared to the traditional docking process, Smart Visual Docking ensures better accuracy, minimizes human error, and enhances airport operations," he stated.
Advantages of Smart Visual Docking
Accurate and faster aircraft parking using sensors, cameras, and AI
Real-time guidance relayed directly to the cockpit
Reduces accident risks at the airport
More efficient utilization of parking bays
Saves passengers’ time and increases available flight slots
