Pune, 6th June 2025: The detection of traces of the corona virus in the sewage of Pune city has spread an atmosphere of concern among Punekars. This shocking information has come to light from an investigation conducted by the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL).
The findings have shown that the level of corona virus has been increasing in samples from sewage treatment plants in the city since May 2025. This has created a need for alertness among the administration and citizens.
Water samples from 10 sewage treatment plants in Pune city are tested every week. This test includes 40 to 60 samples. According to a report by the National Chemical Laboratory, traces of the corona virus have been found in all these samples for the past few weeks.
This level has been increasing steadily since May, indicating that the intensity of the infection in the city is increasing. The study of virus levels in wastewater is considered important for predicting the spread of the infection, as it allows the administration to be alert before the number of patients increases.
98 new corona patients have been registered in the state in the last 24 hours, of which the maximum number of 34 patients have been found in Pune city. 10 new patients have been found in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area, while 4 new patients have been found in the Pune rural area.
The administration has stated that this figure has been increasing for the last few weeks.
The health system has been on high alert, especially since May, as the number of cases has been steadily increasing. The Pune Municipal Corporation and the Health Department have appealed to citizens to wear masks, maintain social distancing, and complete vaccinations.
