Pune-based gangster Nilesh Ghaywal, wanted in a recent firing case, has fled to Switzerland on a 90-day visa.
Police suspect he used forged documents to obtain a passport from Ahmednagar.
A lookout notice has been issued; another case of fake vehicle registration has also been filed against him.
Pune, 30 September 2025: Gangster Nilesh Ghaywal, accused in a recent firing incident in Pune’s Kothrud area, has managed to flee to Switzerland after securing a 90-day visa. Police sources revealed that he obtained a passport from Ahmednagar, allegedly using forged documents. Investigations are underway to determine how the passport was issued.
The firing case took place on September 17, when members of Ghaywal’s gang allegedly opened fire on a youth who was chatting with a friend late at night in Kothrud.
Several gang members, including Mayur Kumbare, Rohit Akhade, Ganesh Raut, Mayank alias Monty Vyas, Anand Chandalekar alias Andya, and Dinesh Phatak, were arrested. Ghaywal, however, remained at large and was booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar confirmed that action would be taken against those involved in issuing Ghaywal’s passport. He said that efforts are on to trace him and ensure accountability for the lapses that allowed his escape.
In addition to the firing case, another offence has been registered against Ghaywal for allegedly using a two-wheeler with a fake registration plate. The case was filed at Kothrud police station after a complaint from a local resident.
To prevent further escape attempts or international travel, Pune police have issued a lookout notice against Ghaywal. This legal mechanism alerts immigration officers at airports and ports across the country to detain the accused if he attempts to re-enter India.
