To tackle rising crime in Pune, the city police publicly paraded notorious gangster Rizwan alias Tipu Sattar Pathan and his associates through the streets of Hadapsar on Saturday evening. This action follows a series of complaints involving extortion, land grabbing, and intimidation allegedly carried out by Pathan’s gang in the Sayyednagar area. The parade was aimed at sending a strong message against criminal activities while reassuring citizens of law enforcement's commitment to maintaining order.

Tipu Pathan, a well-known figure in Pune’s criminal underworld, has a history of serious charges including murder, attempted murder, and extortion. His gang has been active in Hadapsar's Sayyednagar area, instilling fear among residents. A complaint was lodged by a woman from Hadapsar alleging that Tipu Pathan and his brother Ejaz attempted to illegally occupy her land and demanded ₹20 lakh to return it. The gang reportedly gathered on her property on March 2, 2025, threatening her to vacate the land.

Tipu Pathan and his associates were marched through Sayyednagar under heavy police security. This public shaming was led by Senior Police Inspector Manasingh Patil of Kalepadal Police Station as part of a larger crackdown on organised crime.

Tipu Pathan has been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 308(2), 329(3), 351(2), 352, 189(1), 189(2), and 191(2). He has been remanded to Yerwada Central Jail for 14 days pending further investigation.

Police have urged residents to report any instances of threats or extortion by Pathan or other criminals. “We are committed to taking strict action against such anti-social elements,” said Inspector Patil.

The gang’s activities have created an atmosphere of fear in Hadapsar’s Sayyednagar area, with many residents hesitant to come forward due to intimidation tactics. The public parade has been widely appreciated as a strong deterrent against crime, with citizens lauding the police for their proactive measures.
