Pune: Two individuals from Pune, a woman from Ghorpadi and a man from Pashan, have fallen victim to cyber fraud, losing a total of ₹41 lakh to scammers who promised lucrative stock market returns. Cases have been registered at Mundhwa and Baner police stations, and investigations are underway.
In the first case, a 37-year-old woman from Ghorpade Peth was targeted by cybercriminals who convinced her to invest in the stock market, promising high returns. Gaining her trust over time, the fraudsters persuaded her to transfer ₹23.5 lakh into their bank accounts in multiple transactions.
However, when she requested a return on her investment, they stopped responding. The fraud took place between December and January. After realizing she had been deceived, she filed a complaint at the Mundhwa Police Station. Senior Police Inspector Nilkanth Jagtap is leading the investigation.
Similarly, in another case, a 44-year-old man from Pashan lost ₹17.74 lakh in a similar scam. On September 17, the fraudsters sent him a link on his mobile phone, instructing him to download an app. They claimed that investing through this platform would yield substantial returns in the stock market. To build trust, they initially credited a small amount as a return.
Encouraged by this, the victim continued investing, transferring a total of ₹17.74 lakh. However, once the amount was fully invested, the fraudsters ceased communication, leading to financial fraud. The victim filed a complaint at Baner Police Station, where Senior Police Inspector Navnath Jagtap is handling the case.
