Pune, 20 August 2025: Pune and its suburbs have been lashed by continuous heavy rain for the past two days, throwing normal life out of gear. On Tuesday, the city recorded 41 mm of rainfall, and the downpour continued on Wednesday morning. The intense showers led to waterlogging, long traffic jams, and major disruption in the city’s public transport system.

Many city roads were submerged, forcing vehicles to move at a snail’s pace. Commuters, including office-goers and students, struggled to reach their destinations. PMPML buses were stuck in traffic for over half an hour in several locations, disrupting their schedules. Passengers arriving at Pune Railway Station, Swargate, and Shivajinagar ST stand also found it difficult to get rickshaws and cabs, with many drivers charging extra fares.

Suburban areas bore the brunt of the rains. In Baner and Balewadi, roads near Pancard Club, Datt Mandir Chowk, Mitcon Chowk, and Sai Chowk turned into pools of water, causing massive congestion. Warje reported knee-deep water on service and main roads, making it tough for both drivers and pedestrians.

At Dhayari, rainwater collected near Navale Bridge and Wadgaon Bridge, worsening the jams. Heavy traffic and poor drainage also left several stretches of Sinhgad Road clogged with potholes and standing water.

The situation was no different in Aundh, Bopodi, Pashan, Baner Road, Sutarwadi, Sus, and Mahalunge. Bremen Chowk and Baner Phata were heavily waterlogged, slowing down traffic. In some parts of Bopodi and Mahalunge, low-lying areas turned almost impassable. A few minor incidents of treefall were also reported.

The continuous showers, however, brought a drop in temperatures and a cool breeze across Pune. The weather office has forecast that the city is likely to experience more heavy rain over the next 24 hours.
