Pune: Dumper Runs Over Laborers Sleeping on Footpath in Wagholi, Two Children Among Three Dead

Pune: A tragic accident occurred near Kesnand Phata, Wagholi, late Sunday night when a speeding dumper ran over nine individuals sleeping on the footpath.

The incident, which happened between midnight and 1 a.m. in front of the Wagholi Police Station, claimed three lives, including two children and their uncle. Six others sustained severe injuries, with three in critical condition.

The deceased have been identified as Vaibhavi Ritesh Pawar (1 year), Vaibhav Ritesh Pawar (2 years), and Rinesh Nitesh Pawar (30 years). The injured were immediately taken to Sassoon Hospital for treatment.

The victims were part of a family of 12 who had arrived from Amravati on Sunday night in search of daily wage labor opportunities. Approximately 100–150 individuals, including others from different states and districts of Maharashtra, were also sleeping in makeshift shelters and nearby footpaths.

Police confirmed that the dumper driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
