Pune: Despite stable arrivals in the wholesale vegetable market at Pune's Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard, prices of vegetables such as cucumbers, cauliflowers, brinjals, and carrots have declined due to reduced demand. Prices for other vegetables remained steady, according to traders.
On Sunday (December 8), approximately 100 truckloads of vegetables arrived from Maharashtra and other states. Key supplies included green chilies from Karnataka, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh,
cabbages and flat beans from Karnataka and Gujarat, and carrots from Rajasthan. Madhya Pradesh contributed significant supplies of peas (14-15 trucks) and garlic (12-13 tempos).
Local supplies from Pune comprised 5-6 tempos of ladyfingers, 9-10 thousand crates of tomatoes, and 8-10 tempos of cucumbers, among others. Potatoes and onions also made up a significant portion of the arrivals, with 30-35 tempos and 100 trucks, respectively.
Prices of Leafy Vegetables See a Minor Increase
Leafy greens like fenugreek, dill, and spring onions saw a slight price increase, while coriander prices dropped. Spinach and mint prices remained unchanged. Sunday’s arrivals included 1 lakh bundles of coriander and 60-70 thousand bundles of fenugreek.
Wholesale prices for leafy vegetables (per 100 bundles) are as follows:
Coriander: ₹1,000-₹1,500
Fenugreek: ₹700-₹1,200
Dill: ₹500-₹1,500
Spinach: ₹1,000-₹1,500
Fruit Market Sees Price Hikes for Select Varieties
The fruit market recorded a drop in lime prices but increases for pomegranates, watermelons, and papayas. Guavas, sapodilla, and custard apple prices remained stable. Sunday’s arrivals included 60-70 tons of oranges, 25-30 tons of pomegranates, and 15-20 tempos of watermelons.
Senior trader Vilas Bhujbal remarked that the current trends in vegetable and fruit prices reflect the season’s fluctuations in demand and supply.
