
Pune: Alankar Police have arrested two individuals accused of robbing a young jogger at swordpoint on DP Road, Erandwane. The suspects, Sumeet alias Abhishek alias Diamond Raju Asaware (19) and Abhishek alias Kanolya Bharat Khandare (22), both from Kishkindanagar, Kothrud, were apprehended following a detailed investigation.
The police seized a sword, a two-wheeler, two gold chains, and a pendant, with a total value of ₹2.86 lakh.
The incident occurred a week ago, when a Shaniwar Peth resident was jogging on DP Road in the morning. The accused, accompanied by another unidentified individual, threatened him with a sword and snatched his gold chain before escaping on a two-wheeler. The robbery triggered concerns among local residents, particularly those who frequent the area for morning and evening walks.
Acting on the complaint, the Alankar Police launched an investigation, scanning CCTV footage from DP Road, Karve Nagar, and Kothrud. The footage helped in identifying the suspects, leading the police to lay a trap and successfully nab Asaware and Khandare. A search operation is currently underway to locate their third accomplice.
The arrests were made under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Sambhaji Kadam and Assistant Commissioner of Police Ajay Parmar.
The operation was executed by Senior Police Inspector Sunita Rokde of Alankar Police Station, along with a team comprising Crime Branch Inspector Anil Mane, Sub-Inspectors Ganesh Dixit, Mahesh Nimbalkar, Dheeraj Pawar, Someshwar Yadav, Shashikant Sapkal, Shivaji Shinde, Ankush Londhe, Navnath Atawale, Nitin Raut, Madhuri Kumbhar, and Shambhavi Mane.
