Pune Police Department is set for a major overhaul as a proposal has been sent to the state government for the appointment of an Additional Commissioner of Police and six new Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs). This move comes in response to the city’s rapid growth, rising population, and increasing crime rates. Additionally, to tackle the surge in cyber crimes, the establishment of two dedicated cyber police stations has also been proposed.
Need for More Police Officials in Pune
Pune has been expanding at a rapid pace, placing an increased burden on the police force. Managing law and order, crime control, and traffic regulation has become a challenging task with the current workforce.
Recognizing this need, the Pune Police Commissionerate has proposed the creation of new senior positions, including:
One Additional Commissioner of Police for the Traffic Department
Six new Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) for various units
If approved, these new appointments will enhance police operations, improve response times, and strengthen law enforcement in the city.
Two Cyber Police Stations Proposed
Cyber crimes such as online fraud, hacking, financial scams, and social media offenses have seen a sharp increase in recent years. Many citizens have faced monetary losses and security threats due to cyber-related offenses.
To address this growing issue, the Home Department has been sent a proposal to establish two new cyber police stations—one for Pune’s eastern division and one for the western division.
These cyber police stations will:
Speed up cyber crime investigations
Provide specialized expertise in handling digital offenses
Ensure better monitoring of online frauds and cyber threats
The addition of senior police officials and dedicated cyber police stations will greatly enhance public safety. The appointment of a separate Additional Commissioner for traffic control will help streamline Pune’s traffic system, reducing congestion and improving enforcement. Meanwhile, specialized cyber police stations will ensure swift action against digital crimes, providing relief to victims of online fraud and cyber threats.
