Pune: Traffic Division of Pune police launched a sudden traffic blockade across various city areas on Saturday (March 1) night, targeting criminal activities and reckless driving.
During the two-hour operation, 3,000 vehicles were inspected, resulting in 514 violations and a total fine collection of ₹7.46 lakh. Additionally, 72 vehicles were seized for non-compliance with regulations.
Crackdown on Reckless Driving
The surprise blockade, conducted between 10 PM and midnight, aimed to enhance road safety and deter illegal activities. The operation was executed under the leadership of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and Joint Commissioner Ranjankumar Sharma, with 1,872 officers, including senior officials, participating.
The primary violations recorded during the inspection included:
Driving in the wrong direction
Failure to wear seat belts
Triple-riding on two-wheelers
Police Warning: Regular Inspections to Continue
The Pune police have warned that such surprise inspections will continue in the coming weeks. Motorists have been advised to strictly adhere to traffic rules to avoid fines or vehicle seizures.
Speaking about the operation, traffic police officials said, "Our primary objective is public safety. We will continue conducting these checks to ensure Pune's roads remain safe for all."
