Pune, 28 August 2025: In a major relief for devotees traveling during Ganeshotsav, Pune Metro has announced extended operations from Saturday, August 3, to Thursday, September 5. During this period, trains will run from 6 AM to 2 AM daily, providing nearly 20 hours of continuous service.
Metro authorities said the move comes in response to the sharp increase in passenger numbers during the festival, especially from the fourth day onwards. On the first day alone, over 2.28 lakh commuters used the Metro, around 16,000 more than usual. With stations located in the city’s core areas, the Metro has become a faster, safer, and more convenient option than private vehicles, which often face parking and security issues.
To handle the rush between Shivajinagar Court and Swargate stations, trains may run every three minutes if required. Metro officials confirmed that technical preparations for this arrangement are complete. For example, Mandai station witnessed a record 43,000 passenger movements on the opening day.
A special arrangement has also been planned for September 6, the day of Ganesh idol immersion. On that day, the Metro will run nonstop for 41 hours, beginning at 6 AM and continuing until 11 PM the next night, ensuring uninterrupted travel for devotees.
Officials have urged passengers to use digital tickets or Pune Metro’s “One Pune Card” to avoid long queues. Commuters traveling from Pimpri Chinchwad to central Pune are encouraged to use Kasba Peth station for Ganesh darshan, while those on the Vanaz–Ramwadi route can alight at PMC, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan, or Deccan Gymkhana stations for easier access to pandals.
