Pune, 2nd September 2025: The Union government has approved a new Metro corridor from Ramwadi to Wagholi, and talks are now underway to stretch the route further up to Alandi. The proposal aims to strengthen transport links in eastern Pune and provide direct access to the pilgrimage town.

The current plan already covers a line up to Vishrantwadi, but local representatives want it extended to Alandi, located around 20 km from the city. Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol said he recently discussed the idea with Metro officials, noting that the extension would ease travel for devotees as well as residents of nearby areas.

Residents and civic leaders have welcomed the move, saying rapid urbanisation has created a strong need for better transport. Former corporator Anil Tingre, who has long pushed for the project, said the Alandi link could also improve access to Lohegaon airport and act as a connector between Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad.

He added that adjustments to the design of the Vishrantwadi Chowk flyover were suggested earlier to ensure smooth alignment with the Metro line.
