
Pune: Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol and State Minister for Higher Education Chandrakant Patil, alongside BJP legislators, acknowledged growing encroachments and severe traffic congestion as major issues plaguing Pune residents.
During a high-level meeting on Saturday (January 4) with Pune Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale and other officials, they criticized the municipal administration for its slow progress on development projects and failure to address persistent civic problems.
The meeting aimed to review ongoing projects, encroachment removal, and traffic management. BJP leaders, including Dheeraj Ghate and legislators Bhimrao Tapkir, Sunil Kamble, and Siddharth Shirole, voiced concerns about the city’s infrastructure and development challenges.
Slow Development Progress Highlighted
Minister Mohol expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of development, despite timely funding from the central and state governments. He emphasized the need for quicker execution of projects and demanded regular reports on encroachment clearance actions. Mohol also urged the administration to coordinate with police authorities for effective anti-encroachment drives.
Traffic Issues Demand Immediate Attention
Traffic congestion and encroachments were identified as significant concerns by all present. The administration was urged to implement a comprehensive traffic management plan and involve metro officials and citizens for viable solutions. A joint meeting involving the municipality, metro officials, and traffic police was proposed to address these concerns.
Strong Action on Encroachments
Mohol warned that no interference in anti-encroachment actions would be entertained, even from political leaders. He added that non-compliance by municipal officers in clearing footpaths and roads would lead to strict action.
Need for Skilled Officers in PMC
Minister Patil highlighted the importance of having competent officials in PMC to manage Pune's extensive development projects. He assured efforts to secure the appointment of additional commissioners, delayed due to the election code of conduct.
