Pune: The National Insurance Academy (NIA), Pune, has launched its Centre for Learning in Insurance and Cyber Security, marking a pivotal step toward strengthening expertise in cyber risk and insurance.
The Centre has been established in collaboration with the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), New Delhi, with the aim of fostering research, innovation, and skill development in Cyber Security Risk Management. To provide technical expertise for ongoing and future initiatives, a leading scientist from CERT-In has been appointed as an advisor. Additionally, NIA has formalized an MoU with C3i Hub, IIT Kanpur, to drive industry-specific research in Cyber Security Risk and Insurance.
Industry Leaders Emphasize the Need for Cyber Risk Management
Speaking at the inauguration, B. C Patnaik, Director, NIA, highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating: "With the increasing complexity of cyber threats, the insurance industry must stay ahead with comprehensive risk mitigation strategies. The launch of this Centre of Learning reflects NIA’s commitment to equipping industry professionals with advanced knowledge and leadership in cyber risk management. This initiative will play a crucial role in developing a resilient framework for cyber risk assessment and insurance."
The event was attended by prominent industry leaders, including Rajay Kumar Sinha, Member (Finance & Investment), IRDAI, Sanjay Kedia, CEO, Marsh McLennan India, and Prof. Sandeep Shukla, C3i Hub, IIT Kanpur. Their insights contributed to in-depth discussions on the evolving challenges in cyber risk underwriting.
Launch of Research Report on Cyber Risk Underwriting
Following the inauguration, Rajay Kumar Sinha, Sanjay Kedia, and B. C Patnaik unveiled a research report on “Cyber Risk Underwriting.” This study offers critical insights into cyber risk assessment, underwriting complexities, and the implications for the insurance sector.
