Pune, 11th June 2025: The traffic congestion and inconvenience in the Mandai area of Pune is likely to get relief soon. Maha Metro has completed the construction of the new entrance of the Mandai Metro station, paving the way for the removal of barricades that have been in place for the last three years.
This is expected to reduce traffic congestion in the Mandai area. However, barricades remain in some areas as construction of shops for local traders is still underway.
Mandai Metro station is one of the busiest stations in Pune. Around 15,000 passengers use this station every day. With the new entrance, entering the Mandai area has now become easier. According to information given by Maha Metro officials, the construction of shops will be completed in the next two months and all the barricades will be removed. This will bring great relief to local citizens and passengers.
Local traders and commuters are frustrated by the construction work in the Mandai area. They are facing inconvenience as the barricades are still there on the left side. This problem has been going on for the last two years.
As Ganesh Chaturthi, the biggest festival in Pune, is approaching, local traders have demanded that the construction be completed and the barricades removed. “Lakhs of devotees visit the Mandai area during Ganesh Chaturthi. If the roads are cleared before then, it will be convenient for everyone,” said local trader Sanjay Patil.
The new entrance will be useful in reducing traffic congestion in the Mandai area, but the encroachment and parking issues have not been resolved yet. Locals have demanded that the administration take immediate measures in this regard. It is hoped that the new entrance to the metro will bring about smooth traffic flow, but concrete steps need to be taken to remove encroachments.
Apart from Mandai, Maha Metro has completed the work of an additional entry-exit route at Civil Court station at Dengle bridge end. Also, the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) team has started inspection for the inauguration of Khadki Metro station. Khadki station is close to the railway station and has direct access. This will facilitate the transition between metro and rail services. This station will be opened for passengers soon after the improvements are completed as per the instructions of CMRS.
The new entrance will make it easier to reach important religious and tourist places like Tulshibagh, Dagdusheth Ganpati Temple, Shanipar, BabuGenu Ganpati. Since Mandai station is centrally located, it will be of great benefit to the citizens of the crowded areas.
This entrance, located near the Tilak statue near Mahatma Phule Mandai, will also be useful for those coming to the vegetable market. This will facilitate thousands of citizens and help increase the hustle and bustle in the Mandai area.
The new entrance to the Mandai Metro station is expected to reduce traffic congestion in Pune. If the construction is completed before the Ganesh Festival, it will be a great relief for local traders and passengers. Also, the progress of Civil Court and Khadki stations will further strengthen the metro network in Pune. If the administration takes immediate measures to address the problems of encroachment and parking, the Mandai area will truly be a breath of fresh air for Pune residents.
