Pune: Noble Hospitals has inaugurated OPD dedicated to stoma care on the occasion of World Cancer Day. The facility aims to offer comprehensive medical guidance, emotional support, and specialized treatment for patients requiring stoma management after life-saving surgeries.
A stoma is a surgically created opening in the abdominal wall that allows the passage of stool, bile, or urine when normal bodily functions are compromised. It is often required for patients undergoing treatment for colorectal cancer, bladder cancer, intestinal obstruction, or injuries caused by accidents. Depending on the condition, a stoma may be temporary or permanent.
Dr. Ashish Pokharkar, Oncosurgeon at Noble Hospitals and Research Centre, explained that stoma management is crucial for preventing complications such as leakage, skin irritation, hernias, prolapse, and unpleasant odors, which can negatively impact a patient’s quality of life. Without proper care, these issues often lead to low self-esteem, social stigma, intimacy concerns, and even depression.
To ensure optimal care and recovery, the newly established Stoma Care OPD will be staffed by highly trained stoma care nurses and specialists, offering personalized treatment plans for each patient.
Dr. Divij Mane, Director of Noble Hospitals, highlighted the importance of educating both patients and caregivers on proper stoma appliance usage, maintenance, and timely replacements. “With the right training and communication, many common stoma-related complications can be prevented. Our dedicated Stoma Care OPD will serve as a support system to help patients regain confidence and improve their quality of life,” he stated.
The OPD has been launched in collaboration with Coloplast, a global leader in stoma care solutions, ensuring cutting-edge treatments and expert guidance for patients and their families.
Dr. Divij Mane emphasized that the inauguration of this specialized OPD on World Cancer Day reinforces Noble Hospitals’ mission to prioritize patient-centric care. He added, “Each patient’s journey is unique, and they deserve the best medical expertise and compassionate support to navigate their treatment with dignity and confidence.”
Dr. Dilip Mane, Chairman and Managing Director of Noble Hospitals and Research Centre, hailed the initiative as a major advancement in patient care, stating that it would bridge the gap in stoma management and provide much-needed support to patients.
