Pune Police Crime Branch has taken over the investigation of the Swargate ST stand rape case following orders from Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar. The case, which was initially being handled by the Swargate Police, will officially be transferred to the Crime Branch.
In a parallel development, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Vasant More has made claims about the victim’s condition. He revealed that he had received a call from the victim and her friend, where they raised concerns about the accused’s wife influencing officials through emotional appeals.
More further alleged that the accused, Dattatray Gade, remains unaffected by the ongoing proceedings, while the victim continues to suffer. He questioned why the police had not examined her belongings earlier when the mention of ₹7,500 had surfaced in discussions. He also disclosed that the victim had confided in him about contemplating suicide due to the mental distress caused by the case and public scrutiny.
The case has taken a new turn with Advocate Asim Sarode urging the police to take strict action against those spreading false narratives. He also appealed to the court to issue warnings to individuals involved in such defamatory actions.
Sarode further emphasized that the media must exercise caution while reporting on court proceedings, ensuring that unverified claims are not publicized. “The final decision lies with the judiciary, and our priority should be to prevent any further trauma for the victim,” he stated. A legal representation has also been submitted in court on behalf of the victim.
