The Cyber Crime Branch played a crucial role in the operation, with a team led by Senior Police Inspectors Swapnali Shinde, Rahul Shinde, Kiran Jamdade, Sandeep Kolge, and Pramod Tilekar conducting a technical investigation to trace and recover the stolen devices.
Advanced Tracking Through IMEI Analysis
Pune Police utilize their Lost & Found portal to register complaints regarding lost mobile phones. Citizens can obtain a digital copy of their complaint from this portal, aiding in the retrieval process.
Key aspects of the recovery operation include:
Technical tracking through IMEI number analysis
Immediate investigation upon complaint registration
Crackdown on mobile phone theft and snatching incidents
According to officials, a total of 2,300 complaints regarding lost or stolen mobiles were filed with the police in the past month. Out of these, 456 phones were successfully recovered using advanced tracking techniques.
Strengthened Mechanisms to Tackle Phone Theft
With an increase in mobile snatching cases, Pune Police have enhanced their tracking and recovery mechanisms. Once a complaint is filed, police promptly analyze the IMEI number and use technical surveillance to locate the device.
Stolen phones are often found in the possession of criminal gangs and unauthorized resellers. The recovered devices are seized, and the culprits are arrested before the mobiles are returned to their owners.
Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar emphasized that Pune Police are committed to combating mobile theft using technology-driven investigations and ensuring stolen devices are recovered efficiently.
