Rutuja Warhade, a determined student from Pune, has made history by topping the National Defence Academy (NDA) entrance examination among female candidates across India and securing the 3rd rank overall in the merit list declared by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). This remarkable achievement comes in the first few years after the NDA began admitting women, following a landmark Supreme Court ruling promoting gender equality in the armed forces.
Out of over 1.5 lakh female aspirants nationwide, Rutuja emerged as the top female candidate, bringing immense pride to her family, city, and mentors. Both her parents, who are teachers, have been strong pillars of support throughout her journey. Rutuja credits her success to their encouragement and the guidance she received from her educators.
Since Class 9, Rutuja aspired to join the armed forces, and from Class 11, she began serious preparation for the NDA exam. She also cleared the Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS) test, aiming to become an Army pilot. Her dedication and hard work have set a new benchmark for young women aspiring to serve in India’s defence services.
Rutuja’s success symbolises the growing presence and ambition of women in the Indian military, inspiring future generations to break barriers and pursue their dreams in defence careers.
