Pune, 14 August 2025: Pune Police have announced significant traffic diversions in the city’s central areas on August 15 and 16 to manage large gatherings for Shri Krishna Janmashtami and Dahi Handi celebrations. These measures aim to prevent congestion and ensure smooth movement for both pedestrians and vehicles.

The traffic changes will affect major roads such as Shivaji Road, Laxmi Road, Bajirao Road, and Tilak Road, where heavy footfall is expected during the festivities. Roads near key locations, including ISKCON Temple, Shaniwarwada, and other popular Dahi Handi spots, will either be closed or converted into one-way routes. Alternative roads have been arranged, and motorists are advised to follow police instructions to avoid delays.

On August 15, diversions will begin from morning hours in Kondhwa, with U-turns at Gagan Unnati Chowk and Kesar Lodge being closed. Certain stretches between Khadimachine Police Chowk and Shriram Chowk will be shut, redirecting traffic via ISKCON Temple parking.

On August 16, from morning till midnight, changes will also be enforced in Bandgarden, with the road between Teen Tofa Chowk and Blue Nile Chowk closed in one direction.

In Wanowrie, traffic on Shivrkar Road will be restricted from the evening of August 16 until crowds disperse, with vehicles rerouted via Constitution Chowk, Salunke Vihar Road, and Flower Valley Lane.

In the heart of the city, Faraskhana and Vishrambaug divisions will see diversions through alternative routes connecting Shivaji Road, Jangli Maharaj Road, Tilak Road, and FC Road, with several chowks such as Appa Balwant chowk, Sonya Maruti Chowk, and Puram Chowk witnessing restricted entry.

To maintain order and safety, Pune Police will deploy a strong force, including 10 Deputy Commissioners of Police, 16 Assistant Commissioners, 80 Inspectors, 350 Sub-Inspectors, and more than 3,500 constables. Authorities have urged residents and commuters to plan their travel in advance and cooperate with police personnel to ensure a smooth and safe celebration.
