Pune, 30 August 2025: A major mishap was averted in the city after two quick-thinking traffic police constables saved the life of a PMPML bus driver who suffered a heart attack while driving through a busy stretch.
The incident occurred on August 25 near Belbaug Chowk, where traffic constables Romesh Dhaware and Archana Nimgire were on duty for Ganeshotsav arrangements.
Around 7:15 pm, a PMPML bus approaching the City Post Office suddenly went out of control when its driver, 41-year-old Laxman Ambure from Warje Malwadi, collapsed at the wheel due to a heart attack.
Passengers panicked and cried for help as the bus slowed. Dhaware and Nimgire rushed to the spot, pulled the unconscious driver out with the help of commuters, and laid him on the footpath. Dhaware immediately performed CPR, reviving Ambure within minutes.
Without waiting for an ambulance, the officers arranged a rickshaw and ensured that Ambure was admitted to Pune Hospital for treatment, where doctors confirmed that the prompt response had saved his life.
Recognising their bravery and presence of mind, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar felicitated both constables with floral tributes, praising their commitment to duty and public safety.
