Pune: A drunken container truck driver created chaos on the Shikrapur-Chakan road, damaging over 20 vehicles, including a police vehicle, and injuring several people in a dramatic 25-kilometer chase that ended near Jategaon Khurd.
The incident began when the container truck "Chetak Logistics" was traveling on the Chakan-Shikrapur road. The driver, Aaqib Abdul Razzak (24), a resident of Palwal district, Haryana, first collided with two pedestrians in Chakan. Despite attempts by locals to stop him, the driver continued driving recklessly, hitting several vehicles along the way.
Near Bahul village, Chakan police tried to intercept the vehicle, but the driver rammed into their patrol car and sped off. The truck then veered towards Shikrapur, causing further damage as it struck a pickup truck and a young woman at Karandi Chowfula before finally colliding with a dumper near Jategaon Khurd.
The truck’s 25-kilometer rampage was followed by a group of youths on motorcycles who tracked the vehicle while informing the police. With the combined efforts of Shikrapur police and local residents, the truck was eventually stopped. However, an angry mob pelted stones at the vehicle and assaulted the driver.
Amidst the chaos, constable Lakhan Shirsagar showed exceptional presence of mind by entering the container and retrieving the key to stop the vehicle. Despite his efforts, the crowd pulled the driver out and subjected him to a severe beating.
The injured driver was rushed to a hospital in Pune for medical treatment. The incident caused significant traffic congestion on the busy Shikrapur-Chakan road, which was later cleared by police teams from Shikrapur, Chakan, and Pimpri Chinchwad Commissionerate.
Preliminary reports suggest damage to at least 20-25 vehicles during the driver’s rampage. Police have initiated an investigation and will determine the exact number of vehicles damaged and the number of injured individuals after a detailed inquiry.
