Pune: In a major disciplinary action, Assistant Police Inspector Hanmantrao Giri and Police Constable Narayan Jadhav of Shirur Police Station have been suspended for allegedly aiding a fugitive involved in a financial fraud case.

The suspension orders were issued by Pankaj Deshmukh, Superintendent of Police, Pune Rural, after an internal review revealed that the officers had maintained frequent contact with the prime suspect, indirectly helping him evade arrest.

The case pertains to Reshma Rahul Walke, wife of a retired soldier from Karade, Shirur Taluka, who was a partner in W Square India Limited. Allegedly, other partners, including Priyanka Sambhaji Walke, Sambhaji Dagdu Walke, and Sachin Sambhaji Walke, conspired to forge documents and obtained Reshma Walke’s signatures fraudulently, making it appear as if she had resigned. As a result, she was unlawfully removed from the company, causing significant financial loss.

After discovering the fraud, Reshma Walke filed a police complaint at Shirur Police Station on January 27, 2025. However, despite weeks passing, no action was taken against the accused. Suspecting police involvement, she escalated the matter to Superintendent Deshmukh, alleging that certain officers were shielding the suspects.

Taking the complaint seriously, Superintendent Deshmukh launched a personal inquiry, which revealed that API Hanmantrao Giri had contacted prime suspect Sachin Walke 79 times between November 7, 2024, and January 29, 2025. Constable Narayan Jadhav had contacted the suspect 25 times between November 30, 2024, and January 29, 2025.

This unauthorized communication with a key suspect in a fraud case was deemed serious misconduct. The officers’ actions were considered a breach of duty, lack of discipline, and irresponsible behavior, leading to their immediate suspension.
