Pune: Dr. D.Y. Patil School of Design has created a 2-kilometer-long comic strip using 4,500 illustrations. This initiative, undertaken as part of the 'Sketchverse' 24-hour painting event, aims to secure a place in the Guinness World Records.
The comic strip, depicting "The Evolution of Humanity to Artificial Intelligence," was brought to life by 90 students and 10 faculty members. Over 21 hours, the team produced 6,000 images, setting a new benchmark in comic artistry. Currently, Japan holds the record with a 1.6-kilometer-long comic strip, but D.Y. Patil School of Design is set to surpass this milestone.
The Visual Communication Department also hosted 'Sketchverse,' a non-stop 24-hour painting challenge. More than 80 participants, aged 10 to 65, engaged in diverse artistic forms, including live sketching, outdoor painting, still life, memory sketching, and game design illustrations.
The event featured storytelling sessions, classical and Bollywood music performances, and expert-led discussions, enriching the participants' creative journey. Winners will be awarded cash prizes. Notably, the event infrastructure, including stage designs and backdrop frames, was crafted entirely from recycled materials by students.
In an effort to boost employment opportunities, the Dr. D.Y. Patil Center for Skill Development announced the launch of two specialized diploma courses in collaboration with Goodspeed Games and Visual Birds Studio:
