Tourist thanks rescuers, shares video as a warning

One of the tourists who posted the video on Instagram said the intention behind sharing the footage was to inform people, not to alarm them."When fun turns into a horrible situation in just two minutes. Vandri Lake," read the text on the video.

The tourist also thanked a man named Pravin and local residents who were instrumental in the rescue effort. The post noted that even those filming the incident joined in to help save the stranded individuals, and all were safely evacuated soon after. The tourist emphasized that no outing or social media reel is worth putting one’s life at risk.

Why waterfalls become dangerous during the monsoon

Experts and disaster management officials have repeatedly cautioned that waterfalls, rivers, and streams can turn dangerous in a matter of minutes during heavy rain. Even when conditions seem mild at a tourist location, intense rainfall occurring upstream can quickly raise the water level and flow speed, triggering sudden and hazardous flash floods with almost no warning. During the monsoon season, slick rocks, limited visibility, and powerful currents significantly heighten the likelihood of accidents.
