Pune, 21 July 2025: Roads in Sus village, especially near the main entrance and inside lanes, are getting blocked daily due to rising encroachments by handcart vendors. Locals say they are tired of the traffic mess and want the municipal corporation to clear the roads soon.

The problem is worse between the highway and Sunny’s World. Here, vendors selling vegetables and food have taken over much of the road space, making it narrow and difficult to drive through. Handcarts are even set up near the municipal tax office and on nearby open plots. Because of this, traffic moves slowly, and vehicles pile up during busy hours.

People who come to shop often park their two-wheelers and cars carelessly, which adds to the problem. The road gets choked, and both drivers and walkers struggle to get through.

Earlier, when Sus was under the gram panchayat, traffic was lighter and this wasn’t such a big issue. But now, with more schools, colleges, and housing projects coming up in the area, traffic has increased sharply. Handcarts are now being set up right on the roads, and many people park vehicles along the sides, making things worse.

The main market and areas near schools are the worst affected. In the morning and evening, when students and office-goers are out, traffic almost comes to a standstill. Women, children, and senior citizens find it hard even to walk safely. Residents say they have raised the issue many times and now warn that if nothing is done soon, they will protest. Some minor accidents have already happened.

Locals also point out that many families have run small businesses along the road for years, which makes widening the road difficult. However, they say they are ready to cooperate if the civic body offers proper compensation. They believe this would help reduce traffic and support the area’s development.

Aundh-Baner Assistant Encroachment Inspector Pankaj Awhad said the municipal team will start removing encroachments in Sus village next week, based on public complaints.
