Pune: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC / ST) has introduced the UPI payment system for bus ticket purchases, significantly reducing disputes between conductors and passengers over loose change. This initiative has been well-received, particularly in the Pune division, where many travelers have embraced the online payment option.

With a recent 14.95% increase in ticket fares, several ticket prices now stand at ₹21, ₹25, ₹35, leading to frequent issues due to the unavailability of exact change. In response, the ST Corporation has implemented the UPI payment system as a convenient alternative.

To facilitate digital transactions, conductors have been equipped with Android-based Electronic Ticket Issuing Machines (ETIMs) that support UPI payments. Passengers opting for UPI can simply inform the conductor, who will select the digital payment option on the machine. The payment can then be completed using popular platforms such as BHIM, Paytm, PhonePe, and Google Pay.
