Wagholi: Father, Brothers Held for Killing 17-Year-Old Over Girl’s Friendship

Pune: A 17-year-old boy was brutally killed by three individuals, including the father and brothers of a girl, over a past interaction with her. The incident took place in the early hours of January 2 at Gora Vasati, Wagheshwarnagar, Wagholi.

The deceased, identified as Ganesh Waghu Dhande, was returning home on a motorcycle with his friends when he was intercepted by the accused near their house.

The suspects, Nitin Petkar (31), Sudhir Petkar (32), and Laxman Petkar (60), residents of the same locality, allegedly confronted Ganesh, accusing him of previously speaking to their daughter.

The confrontation escalated into a violent attack. The accused verbally abused Ganesh, assaulted him with kicks and punches, and used an iron rod and stones to fatally injure him.

Ganesh’s father, Waghu Maruti Dhande, filed a complaint against the accused. The police detained the suspects shortly after the incident. Assistant Police Inspector Vinayak Ahire is conducting the investigation, while authorities continue to gather evidence from the crime scene and witnesses.

Recently in October 2024, a 29-year-old man was brutally beaten to death near Dandekar Bridge over suspicions that he was in a romantic relationship with a young woman from the accused's family.

The victim, Kaustubh Jaydeep Naik, a resident of Sadashiv Peth, was attacked by a group of assailants, allegedly led by the brother of the woman with whom Kaustubh was involved.
