Pune: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have received advance possession of 15 acres of land in Wakad’s Survey Number 39 from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). The land will facilitate the establishment of critical police infrastructure, including senior officer residences and offices for the Crime Branch and Traffic Department.
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, established six years ago, had long faced operational challenges due to a lack of dedicated facilities. After taking charge in December 2022, Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey prioritized acquiring land for essential police infrastructure. Following a determined pursuit lasting one year and eight months, the Commissionerate secured advance possession of the land.
Key Infrastructure Plans
The land will accommodate the Deputy Commissioner of Police’s Zone II office, offices for the Anti-Narcotics and Anti-Extortion units of the Crime Branch, the Traffic Department, and other related facilities.
Additional amenities, including a multipurpose hall, cafeteria, jogging track, and a children’s play area, will also be developed. Residences for senior officers, from the Police Commissioner to Assistant Commissioners, are part of the blueprint.
Future Expansion
While nine acres in Chikhali have already been handed over, the Commissionerate is awaiting approval for an additional 50 acres in Tathawade to establish a new police headquarters. Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Choubey expressed optimism about securing this approval soon.
