A military clash has broken out in West Asia, with Iran launching attacks on neighboring Gulf nations in response to strikes by the United States and Israel within its borders. Amidst the chaos, Israel has unveiled an initiative known as 'bomb shelter dating,' designed to facilitate social interactions and connections among people seeking refuge during air-raid alerts.
In a post on X, Israel's foreign affairs ministry discussed various 'innovative' tools being utilized even amidst 'missile attacks'. These tools include a dating app that reveals 'who's single even during attacks', a bomb shelter locator, and a shower risk protector that assists individuals in selecting safer times for showering.
Finding love in bomb shelters during war time
The ministry suggests a concept called a 'dating app in the bomb shelter,' designed to facilitate connections among individuals as they remain in shelters during air-raid alerts.
The platform is said to highlight singles who are also seeking refuge in the vicinity. 'Reveals who's single because love persists even amidst conflict,' the ministry posted on X.
Originally designed for speed-dating, the Hooked app is now serving as a conversation initiator in bomb shelters. Occupants place a QR code at the entrance, allowing singles who scan it to see who else in the shelter is also single, according to The Times of Israel.
Mike Huckabee, the US ambassador to Israel, posted on X, saying: 'One day, they'll tell their children, 'we met on a dating app in a shelter while avoiding ballistic missiles.''
A different tool known as the 'bomb shelter tracker' monitors the frequency with which users must relocate to shelters. It also calculates the amount of sleep people miss due to recurring sirens during the night. There is also a “shower risk predictor”. The app analyzes recent siren alerts to predict the likelihood of another missile warning, ensuring you're not caught off guard, as the Israeli ministry noted.
Online users respond to 'innovative' concepts
These 'innovations' did not sit well with social media users.
A user commented, "There's something profoundly wrong with you all," while another expressed on X, "This is disgusting. People are losing their lives. People are grieving. Please don't do this."
A third individual commented: "I hope you realize that no one actually dislikes you; it's your actions that compel people to feel that way. Everyone desires peace with you, but it seems you have no interest in that. Why is it so difficult to act normally, lol."
