According to police, relatives of the accused in the murder case of former corporator Vanraj Andekar are being targeted by members of the gang. In the last few days, two serious incidents were reported from Balaji Nagar and Khadi Machine Chowk areas in Dhankawadi.

During the investigation, police found evidence suggesting that gang activities were being directed from prison.

The gang’s alleged kingpin, Suryakant alias Bandu Andekar, is currently lodged in Dhule District Jail, while his son Krishna Andekar is imprisoned in Nandurbar Jail. Both are facing serious charges including murder and extortion and are booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA).

Following these revelations, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar wrote to prison authorities demanding stricter surveillance and tighter restrictions on the accused. The letter recommends that Bandu and Krishna Andekar be kept in separate cells and monitored closely for suspicious communication and illegal mobile phone use.

Police have also requested that, apart from meetings with their legal counsel, they should not be allowed to meet outsiders. The commissioner further suggested that the accused should attend court proceedings through video conferencing instead of physical appearances.
