Pune, 6th December 2025: Promotion Committee of The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has selected Aniruddha Pawaskar, Chief Engineer of the Road Department, to the post of City Engineer.
The decision was taken in a meeting of the Departmental Promotion Committee chaired by Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram. The proposal was later cleared in the City Improvement Committee meeting as well.
City Engineer Prashant Waghmare, who has served in the position for 22 years, will retire on 31 January 2026. With his retirement nearing, discussions within PMC had intensified over the past few months about who would take over this crucial role.
In PMC, four posts are considered statutory and require government approval, Municipal Commissioner, Additional Commissioner, Health Chief, and City Engineer. The City Engineer not only leads the Construction Department but also oversees all engineering-related departments across the corporation, making it a highly significant and prestigious post.
Two senior PMC officials were eligible for the role: Aniruddha Pawaskar and Water Supply Department Chief Engineer Nandkishore Jagtap. After evaluation, the committee finalised Pawaskar’s name. The proposal will now go to the General Body, and after its approval, it will be forwarded to the state government.
There had been speculation that the government might grant a two-year extension to outgoing City Engineer Prashant Waghmare due to ongoing major projects in the city. However, officials clarified that no such proposal has been submitted, and Waghmare himself has not requested an extension.
