Pune, 13 February 2026: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will introduce the Bharat Taxi service at Pune Airport as part of its new initiative to provide passengers with a reliable, commuter-friendly, and transparent airport transport option.
Pune is among the first airports in the country selected for the pilot rollout of the service.
The decision was taken on February 5 following rising complaints from passengers about private taxi aggregators, particularly surge pricing during peak hours and late-night travel. To address these issues, AAI has planned a structured taxi system that focuses on fixed fares and fair pricing for airport commuters.
Under the Bharat Taxi model, passengers travelling to and from Pune Airport will be charged transparent, fixed rates, eliminating sudden fare increases. The initiative aims to make airport travel safer, simpler, and more affordable for flyers arriving in or departing from the city.
The service will be operated by the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), while the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has developed a secure and user-friendly mobile application for bookings.
Only original vehicle owners will be allowed to register as drivers, and fares will be calculated on fixed per-kilometre rates. This system ensures that drivers receive full earnings without intermediary commissions.
AAI Director Bipin Kumar said, “The app-based Bharat Taxi service has been launched in line with Central government directives to provide safe, transparent and passenger-centric transport facilities.” He added that the service will initially begin at selected AAI-operated airports, including Pune.
